Babyboy is a series of drawings based on a character that Haoran used to draw when he was in elementary school. Haoran was struggling with his identity for a long time when he was young and used these drawings to express ideas that he was afraid to share with others. These ideas include boys’ love, sexual curiosity, and gender identity. Haoran evolved and reinvented these childhood characters and further explored these ideas.
The series depicts these characters doing certain actions or activities which touch on topics like gay relationships & sexual drive, BDSM, fluidity of men’s fashion, and emotional insecurity. Haoran believes these topics should be more comfortably talked about since they are as important as fulfilling one’s basic needs.
